Tasting Notes 2020 Harvest

Arbequina & Picual

Aroma:
Good fruity aroma of fruit with apples and citrus fruits, followed by grassy leafy tones and a specific touch of grapefruit.

Taste:
The flavours in the mouth are similar to those in the aromas with some culinary herbs, green bananas and grapefruit pith. Pleasant levels of bitterness and pepper rise slowly with almonds and sharp apple skins, leading to a long and attractive after taste with some salad leaves and a
touch of sweet tomato coulis.

Style:
This is an oil with a good balance of bitterness, pepper and fruit.

Assessment:
This is an easy to use, all purpose, oil with some complexity. Its general style is not too robust and should appeal to all tastes.

Early Harvest Picual

Aroma:

The aromas are quite intense, very fresh and grassy with some bitter herbs and salad leaves such as rocket and mustard leaf. This is followed by some citrus tones.

Taste:

The flavours in the mouth are similar to those in the aromas with bitter herbs of all kinds; watercress, tobacco leaves and dark black tea. Strong peppery tones develop along with the bitterness but do not overwhelm the herbaceous fruit which remains throughout the long peppery after taste, softening a little with some attractive tomato tones at the end.

Style:

This is a very robust oil which, despite the strong bitterness and pepper, remains pretty well balanced

Assessment:

This oil is both complex and pungent with a good deal of character.  It will appeal to all those who like a stronger style of olive oil.  Use with other well flavoured ingredients such as steak and wild boar, on the barbecue and as a dip.
