Arbequina & Picual 2021

Aroma:

Herbaceous tones jump out with a salad bowl of culinary herbs  including basil and chicory, also a touch of apple and an abundance of lemon citrus.

Taste:

The flavors in the mouth are similar to those in the aromas , a complete salad bowl with a touch of Cos lettuce, rocket and chicory The gentle bitterness and pepper linger into an attractive herby aftertaste.

Style:

This is a delicate to medium style of oil with well balanced bitterness and pepper.

Assessment:

This is an delightful oil with a wide range of herbaceous flavours offering complexity whilst remaining delicate to medium in style. This would suit most culinary applications and is indeed delicious in its own right.

 

Early Harvest Picual 2021

Aroma:

Intense deeply herbaceous flavours jump out with strong grassy and leafy notes along with citrus tones of light orange and kumquats.  

Taste:

The flavors in the mouth are similar to those in the aroma accompanied by rocket and tomatoes on the vine, green bananas, bitter almond skins and a touch of tobacco leaves and toasty nuts.

Style:

This is a medium to robust oil with very well balanced fruitiness, bitterness and pepper.

Assessment:

This is a delightful oil which offers excellent complexity and great character. It will appeal to those who like a robust oil, but will not deter those wishing to try something a little stronger.  Use to enhance well flavored ingredients such as BBQ grills and steaks, Mediterranean stews and casseroles, strongly herbaceous salads and pasta dishes.  It is also  simply delicious on its own as a dip. 

 

Arbequina & Picual 2020

Aroma:
Good fruity aroma of fruit with apples and citrus fruits, followed by grassy leafy tones and a specific touch of grapefruit.

Taste:
The flavours in the mouth are similar to those in the aromas with some culinary herbs, green bananas and grapefruit pith. Pleasant levels of bitterness and pepper rise slowly with almonds and sharp apple skins, leading to a long and attractive after taste with some salad leaves and a
touch of sweet tomato coulis.

Style:
This is an oil with a good balance of bitterness, pepper and fruit

Assessment:
This is an easy to use, all purpose, oil with some complexity. Its general style is not too robust and should appeal to all tastes.

 

Early Harvest Picual 2020

Aroma:

The aromas are quite intense, very fresh and grassy with some bitter herbs and salad leaves such as rocket and mustard leaf. This is followed by some citrus tones.

Taste:

The flavours in the mouth are similar to those in the aromas with bitter herbs of all kinds; watercress, tobacco leaves and dark black tea. Strong peppery tones develop along with the bitterness but do not overwhelm the herbaceous fruit which remains throughout the long peppery after taste, softening a little with some attractive tomato tones at the end.

Style:

This is a very robust oil which, despite the strong bitterness and pepper, remains pretty well balanced.

Assessment:

This oil is both complex and pungent with a good deal of character.  It will appeal to all those who like a stronger style of olive oil.  Use with other well flavoured ingredients such as steak and wild boar, on the barbecue and as a dip.
